The Anglo-Saxon Laboratory: directions

 61 Bootham, York YO30 7BT, tel 634585

 (by appointment only)

By road

Leave the A1 North at A64, signposted to York.

Leave the A64 at the A1237 (Askham Bryan) and follow the ring road over the A59 roundabout to the A19 roundabout.

Turn right on to the A19 and follow this road towards York city centre.

You will pass under a footbridge by a school. Continue past the Churchill Hotel on your left and the small park with trees also on your left. Bootham House is the first building on your left after the park gates.

For delivery, you can park briefly on the cobbles outside Bootham House.

For the nearest car-park, continue on, take the second turning on the right alongside the Abbey walls (Marygate), then the next road on the right (ignore the small lanes) and park in the Marygate car-park. There is a short route by foot from the top of the car-park, up the road called ‘St Marys’, to Bootham House.

By foot from York station (shortcut route, less than 10 minutes)

Exit the station and turn left towards the river. Take the first turning left (Leeman Road) and pass the Post Office on your right.

Turn down the small alley immediately after the Post Office and you will reach the river. Turn left and walk over Scarborough Bridge (footpath next to railway line).

From the bridge turn left along the footpath that runs alongside the Marygate carpark. At the end of the path go up the steps into the street called ‘St Marys’ and continue to the road junction. Cross Bootham (the main road) via the pelican crossing. Bootham House is now in front of you.

Access to building

The front door is not locked during office hours. Come into the lobby and ring the bell marked ASLab. There is an intercom, and the inner security door can be unlocked from our office. If any problems, ring 01904-634585.
